With ownership of Gatorade as the prize, Wall Street sent shares of Quaker Oats Co. higher Friday on word PepsiCo had offered $14 billion for Quaker. Quaker rejected the offer, reportedly worth $103.53 a share, a 26% premium over Quaker's recent trading price. Analysts speculated Nestle or even Coca-Cola Co. might also woo Quaker. Quaker said Gatorade held an 86% share of sports drink sales through grocery stores in the third quarter. In trading Friday, Quaker closed at $89.63, up 12.38% for the week.
