Profile of the Week: Sears, Roebuck & Co.

Published on .

Sears announced it would stop selling cosmetics, including its own Circle of Beauty line, saying the segment was a drain on profits. The announcement came just weeks before the launch of beComing, the first retail effort from Avon Products, which had planned to launch in-store shops as a joint venture with Sears and J.C. Penney. Sears also announced last week that June sales were flat, but management added the company will meet Wall Street's earnings forecasts for the second quarter. Thirty-three AdMarket stocks closed the week up, 16 down and one unchanged.
