General Motors Corp., reporting strong third-quarter results, cited a recovery in North American sales that sent its U.S. market share to 28.9% from 24.1% in the strike-plagued year-ago period. That was still down from GM's 31.7% third-quarter share in 1997. GM reported net income of $877 million for the quarter, compared to a $309 million loss in the 1998 period.
