X has changed the cable landscape by carving out a unique position as a “dual-value” network that bridges the gap between niche and general entertainment. The 2002-2003 season proved to be another year of unprecedented achievement for FX—earning the remarkable distinction of having both the No. 1 and No. 2 top original drama series on basic cable against the A 18-49 demo. With phenomenal success in original series and movies, growing numbers of broadcast and basic cable motion picture premieres and innovative programming concepts like DVD ON TV, FX offers viewers and sponsors a smart, progressive brand with an authentic originality supported by its standout programming and identity.
Original Series
FX has one of cable’s highest profiles for quality original series, achieving the near-impossible with “Nip/Tuck”; its immediate rise to No. 1 gave FX the top two hours of original drama on basic cable. “The Shield” is staying hot, increasing viewership in season two and holding in season three. After making history by earning the first major Emmy Award for a basic cable original—Michael Chiklis, Best Actor for “The Shield”—FX original series continue to dominate the field, changing the core perception of the network and attracting an audience of highly desirable viewers. FX’s next original drama series is set to launch in July: “Rescue Me,” a gritty, comedic drama set in the world of New York City firefighters and starring Denis Leary. A new reality series, “Nascar Drivers: 360” premieres in May. Current development slate includes “Thief,” “U.S. Customs,” “30 Days” and a project from “MASH” creator Larry Gelbart.

like interviews, bonus footage, alternate endings and behind-the-scenes features. This hit franchise offers advertisers one of cable’s best sponsorship opportunities, and is an integral part of the success that FX has achieved in primetime. FX has more than 30 broadcast or basic cable premieres in the 2004-2005 season, including “Someone Like You,” “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “America’s Sweethearts,” “Sum of All Fears,” “Tears of the Sun” and “Just Married.”
Original Movies
FX “Original Movies” are a cornerstone of the network: superior production values and a focus on provocative true storylines have resulted in numerous comparisons to HBO. The franchise broke records this year with two of the most successful projects yet: “44 Minutes” outperformed all TNT, TBS and USA originals in ’03; and Jamie Foxx’s star turn in “Redemption” has been hailed among the year’s finest. Currently in production is “Meltdown,” a terrifying look at the aftermath of a nuclear plant disaster. Upcoming projects include “Lucky Jim,” “100 Days of Darkness” and “Borders.”
Acquired Series
FX looks for quality acquired series that are as distinctive as the network’s original programming. “King of the Hill” premieres this fall; “That ’70s Show” arrives in the fall of ’05; and the reality phenomenon “Fear Factor” hits FX this summer, with celebrity segments, themed episodes and plenty of adrenaline. These off-network hits are certain to be a major new draw for FX.
The 2002-2003 season saw FX solidify its position as a top-tier network. FX is continuing to leverage the cachet of its extraordinary success with original programming to attract the best creative talent, top projects, huge critical acclaim, and more and more viewers every year. |
