BEIJING (AdAgeChina.com) -- Last year's Asia/Pacific leader in new business wins, Ogilvy & Mather, had a strong start in China during January and February 2010, picking up business from Tsingtao Brewery Group, Adidas, Shandong Jinyu Construction Co. and other advertisers, said Greg Paull, a principal at independent marketing consultancy R3 in Beijing.
By the end of last month, M&C Saatchi had leapt to second place with account wins from Yakult, a Japanese probiotic milk-like product, and Sony Corp. BBH took third place thanks to a major appointment from Perfetti Alpenliebe, while Grey Group took fourth place with a Changyu Wines win.
Among media agencies in China, Omnicom Group's PhD snagged Unilever's media business in China from WPP's Mindshare. Carat also had a good start, securing China Telecom and Deutsche Bank, giving it the No. 2 spot. ZenithOptimedia ranked third, followed by OMD with new assignments from PepsiCo's food division and Mercedes.
The ranking is based on 2010 wins through February. R3 compiles agency account wins in China each month for Ad Age China. The new business tally is based on data supplied by 26 multinational agencies on a monthly basis. The data is compared to advertisers' estimates and Nielsen's ad spend figures, discounted to appropriate levels and converted to a revenue estimate.
