BEIJING (AdAgeChina.com) -- WPP's Ogilvy & Mather maintained the top position last month after winning additional business from local companies such as COFCO (China Oil & Foodstuffs Corp.) and the electronics manufacturer Hisense.
Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi moved up one spot to second place after winning the Chinese creative business for Carlsberg and Chrysler, moving M&C Saatchi into third place, even though the independent agency has also won new business from AIA Insurance, said Greg Paull, a principal at independent marketing consultancy R3 in Beijing.
With Unilever under its belt, Omnicom Group's PHD maintained the leading position among media agencies, securing Langham Hotels, among other new wins. Aegis-owned Carat maintained second place, after winning Timberland's digital media business, but GroupM's MEC division moved up to third position after Mercedes-Benz consolidated its media business.
The ranking is based on 2010 wins through the end of April. R3 compiles agency account wins in China each month for Ad Age China. The new business tally is based on data supplied by 26 multinational agencies on a monthly basis. The data is compared to advertisers' estimates and Nielsen's ad spend figures, discounted to appropriate levels and converted to a revenue estimate.
