BEIJING (AdAgeChina.com) -- Saatchi & Saatchi maintained the top spot among creative agencies in China, based on new business wins through September, after picking up business from the South China Football League last month. The fastest-moving agency on the ranking was DDB Worldwide, which took the No. 2 spot on the back of new business from advertisers like UnionPay and Lee Kum Kee.
The newcomer to the ranking, Iris, recently won creative accounts for Sony Ericsson and CNN, said Greg Paull, a principal at independent marketing consultancy R3 in Beijing.
Among media agencies, there were no change in the ranking although some significant business has changed hands in China. ZenithOptimedia kept the top spot after picking up media business for brands like Mars and Red Bull. Carat kept its No. 2 slot with more local wins, followed distantly by Universal McCann and OMD.
The ranking is based on 2009 wins through September 2009. R3 compiles agency account wins in China each month for Ad Age China. The new business tally is based on data supplied by 26 multinational agencies on a monthly basis. The data is compared to advertisers' estimates and Nielsen's ad spend figures, discounted to appropriate levels and converted to a revenue estimate.
