Beijing spending $526m on subway

Beijing will spend $526 million upgrading its subway system before the Olympics. The system has 4 lines totaling 114 km, carrying 2.1 million passengers daily, but it will have 9 lines totaling 200 km by 2008. Average waiting time will be reduced from 3 to 2.5 minutes. By 2020, the city plans to complete 19 lines totaling 561.5 km.
