China's 3G Service Subscribers Top 38 Million

China Mobile Leads With a 43.9% Market Share

BEIJING (AdAgeChina.com) -- Each of China's three telecom operators--China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom--had more than 10 million subscribers to 3G services at the end of October 2010. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the total number of 3G service subscribers reached 38.64 million at the end of October, up 10.4% month-on-month, and up 295.7% year-on-year.

The breakdown: China Mobile had 16.98 million 3G subscribers, followed by China Unicom with 11.66 million, and China Telecom at 10 million. Market leader China Mobile had a 43.9% share of the 3G market by subscribers. Subscribers to 3G services accounted for 4.6% of China's mobile phone subscribers. Industry experts predict that figure will grow to 10% in 2011.
