Sole-proprietorships on the rise

After the Chinese government made it easier for investors to set up their own businesses in Beijing, entrepreneurs opened 5,688 sole-proprietor enterprises in the Chinese capital during the first half of this year, particularly in fields such as retailing, construction, food and beverages. Beijing now has about 16,000 sole-proprietor companies, and the number of such businesses is likely to exceed state-owned enterprises before 2008.
