Storm damage already above $3 billion

Severe snowstorms across China caused 22.1 billion yuan, or just over $3 billion, in damages through Jan. 30, 2008. More than 70 million people in 17 provinces including Hunan, Hubei, Anhui and Jiangxi are directly affected. More than 4 million hectares of farmland have been hit by the storms, 107,000 houses have collapsed and another 399,000 have been damaged.
