PepsiCo has appointed Omnicom Group's OMD in Shanghai to handle the $30 million media business for its FritoLay brand in China, following a pitch against the incumbent, WPP Group's MindShare. The creative business remains with Omnicom's BBDO Worldwide, Shanghai | Shantel Wong to VP-marketing, Greater China at Starbucks from general manager, Olympics 2008 at McDonald's Corp. She will remain based in Shanghai. (See related story in News) | Guy Abrahams to regional director of communications planning, Asia at Publicis Groupe's ZenithOptimedia, a new position based in Hong Kong, from group strategy director, BLM, London | U.S.-based technology marketing firm Godfrey Q and Partners has opened its first overseas office in Beijing. It will be managed by Scott Silverman, who was recently appointed regional director, Asia/Pacific. Previously, he was general manager of Young & Rubicam and Wunderman in Beijing. "Our clients are experiencing a seismic shift toward Asia in general and China in particular, and they want us to have a presence there. We also see the emergence of China-based technology companies as a huge opportunity," said GQP co-founder and Managing Partner Patrick Godfrey in San Francisco | Interpublic Group of Cos.' experiential marketing agency Jack Morton Worldwide has opened an office in Beijing led by Managing Director Rebecca Lim. Most recently, she was managing director of Eventus in Singapore | Orchid Asia has invested $10 million in Shanghai-based Sport100 International Holdings, one of China's top sporting goods retailers with more than 30 stores in ten major cities | Hong Kong-based custom publisher Emphasis Media, a Publicitas subsidiary, has been appointed by Singapore Airlines to produce three KrisWorld inflight entertainment guides and act as media sales representatives for the airline, effective April 2006. Emphasis was hired recently by Air Macau to publish its inflight magazine.
