The Aegis executive will focus on building Vizeum as an alternative media agency brand to Carat for both local and international advertiser in the mainland.
Vizeum already works in China with Beijing Telecom, Nikon, Boehringer Ingelheim and Carlsberg.
Mr. Fuchs, 50, will also build Vizeum's offices in Shanghai and Guangzhou, said KF Lee, Aegis Media's CEO of Greater China.
For the past year, he was Aegis Media's regional business director, North Asia in Beijing. During that time, he also helped lead Carat's account service management in China. Before that, he was CEO of Carat's operation in Tokyo, where he expanded the media agency's operations in the world's number two ad market to include interactive media, event marketing, customer relationship management and creative services.
Since 2003, he has also served as managing director of Vizeum in Tokyo. He helped that network win the media business for 20th Century Fox in Japan, where it is notoriously difficult for international media agencies to win business from local companies. Media buying is dominated by the two biggest agencies, Dentsu and Hakuhodo, who control inventory as well as media buying.
A longtime resident of Japan, Mr. Fuchs was the managing partner and VP of ThompsonConnect before he joined Aegis in 2003.
