Previously, Mr. Vakidis, 30, was national creative director, digital at OgilvyOne Worldwide, also based in Shanghai.
He joined the WPP division in January 2001, and developed integrated and digital campaigns for brands such as Adidas, Seiko, Lancome, Ikea and Volkswagen.
He has "a deep passion for motion picture and film direction, combined with digital interaction [and] has spent time working with great brands throughout the region, including China, Korea and Singapore," said Rei Inamoto, AKQA's global creative officer based in San Francisco.
Taking on a new position at AKQA in China, Mr. Vakidis will work alongside Leo Chu, general manager of AKQA's office in Shanghai, who joined the agency in July 2008. Previously, Mr. Chu held management positions at Leo Burnett Worldwide, Draftfcb and US Web/CKS Corp., where he developed marketing programs for Philip Morris, Visa and Chase Manhattan.
