SHANGHAI (AdAgeChina.com) -- Euro RSCG Worldwide has appointed a longtime Ogilvy & Mather executive, Joseph Wang, as chairman, North Asia, a new position. He will oversee the agency's operations, including acquisitions and new business development in the region, effective Oct. 1.
Mr. Wang will remain based in Shanghai will focus on Greater China, including Hong Kong and Taiwan, where the agency works with advertisers such as Pernod Ricard, UPS, Carrefour, Kang Shifu, Yili Group, Peugeot and Bank of China. He will also oversee the agency's business in South Korea and Japan, reporting to Euro RSCG's Hong Kong-based regional CEO, Olivier Pluquet.
"With Greater China being increasingly integrated from a business perspective and the surge in business and trade between China, Korea and Japan, creating a regional structure that encourages this growth is strategically important," said Olivier Pluquet, CEO, Euro RSCG Asia Pacific.
For the past 13 years, Mr. Wang has held senior roles at Ogilvy & Mather in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Most recently, he was vice chairman, Greater China, where he was heavily involved in acquisition and integration of local companies into the group.
Earlier, he was the WPP Group agency's chairman-CEO, southern and eastern China, overseeing operations in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai. Before he joined Ogilvy, Mr. Wang managed the Greater China operations of Bates Asia, based in Hong Kong.
Euro RSCG has also named Fred Tong as chief creative officer in Beijing. Most recently, he was regional exec creative director, China at Hakuhodo. Mr. Tong was the exec creative director at Euro RSCG, Hong Kong from 1994 to 2000, and held the same position at Euro RSCG, Shanghai from 2002 to 2004.
