Mediabrands Ventures Appoints Jimmy Poon

Former China Head of Puca and Tribal DDB Will Oversee Acquisitions

SHANGHAI (AdAgeChina.com) -- Interpublic Group's Mediabrands division has appointed Jimmy Poon, 44, as CEO of Mediabrands Ventures in China.

Based in Shanghai, Mr. Poon will oversee the China divisions of IPG's Media Lab, which educates marketers about digital media practices, and Greenhaus, an incubator for media entrepreneurs. He will also look for new acquisitions and partnerships with local companies to support Interpublic's global media agencies, Universal McCann and Initiative Media.

"Expanding Mediabrands Ventures' assets will be my primary focus and in China many of the successful new media offerings are home grown," Mr. Poon said. "We will identify partners who want to work together to build new marketing and technology solutions that will yield greater business results for our clients in region."

Most recently, he was based in Beijing as managing director of the China operation for Puca, a Dublin-based mobile marketing and mobile commerce specialist.

Before that, Mr. Poon was Hong Kong-based managing director, Greater China at Tribal DDB.

"My interestĀ has always beenĀ on the content owner side, and this role allows me to use what I know about digital advertising to work with digital content owners, identifying the key and promising ones to invest in, opening up new business models...to get ownership and deeper into the content owner side," Mr. Poon said.
