Star Hires Jonathan Ellis in Asia

Senior VP, Ad Sales Succeeds Karen Davidson in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (AdAgeChina.com) -- Hong Kong-based Star Group has appointed Jonathan Ellis as senior VP, advertising sales, reporting to Star's Chief Operating Officer Laureen Ong. Part of News Corp., Star broadcasts over 60 television services in ten languages to more than 300 million viewers across 53 Asian countries.

Mr. Ellis will oversee Star's advertising sales across the region, including Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. He will also be responsible for developing integrated marketing opportunities and value-added solutions for advertisers and marketers. He succeeds Karen Davidson, formerly Star's senior VP of ad sales, who has left the company.

Previously, Mr. Ellis was the London-based commercial director at Eurosport, responsible for the management, coordination and growth of sales, including TV, online, on-ground, mobile and creative solutions. Before joining Eurosport, he held several positions at IDS, the advertising sales house for Virgin Media Television, including head of business development and commercial development manager.

Star also appointed Bonny Yu as VP of programming for Xing Kong, Star's Mandarin-language general entertainment channel in mainland China; Jennifer Batty was VP, programming for Star World, its regional English-language entertainment channel. Both executives are based in Hong Kong and will lead scheduling, acquisition, and content strategies for their respective channels.

Previously, Ms. Yu spent nearly three years as VP of programming in Asia/Pacific for the Disney Channel, part of the Walt Disney Co. Ms. Batty joined Star from the European broadcaster Viasat, where for the last three years she served as pay TV, program director, channel development and head of programming, factual pay TV.
