Mr. Ma will manage operations at both TBWA and Tequila, the Omnicom agency's direct marketing arm.
He succeeds Ruth Ang, who has been promoted to senior VP, Greater China, overseeing the agency's relationships with advertisers such as McDonald's Corp. and Pernod Ricard.
Most recently, Mr. Ma was managing director of Ogilvy & Mather's OgilvyAction division, a job he left last fall. Before that, he was general manager of M&C Saatchi, Shanghai, where he worked with Ian Thubron, now TBWA's group president, Greater China.
"Over the last 10 years, I've watched him grow and mature into a seasoned communications executive. He'll lead our fast growing operation in Shanghai and help cement our uniquely integrated positioning," Mr. Thubron said.
