SHANGHAI (AdAgeChina.com) -- Wieden+Kennedy has appointed Francis Lam, 30, to a new position in Shanghai as creative technologist. He will be responsible for leading and implementing creative technology innovation for marketers in China such as Nike and Nokia Corp. The agency hopes to "further integrate its interactive offering," said Kel Hook, managing director of Wieden, Shanghai. Mr. Lam's role "is not just helping extend our creative ideas through technology, but to also start developing our own applications and technologies and applying them as creative solutions for our clients' business issues."
Previously, he was senior interactive specialist at PCCW's digital pay-TV service in Hong Kong, nowTV, in charge of project management, interaction and interface design for IPTV, mobile and web platforms.
From 2004 to 2006, he was a research assistant at MIT's Media Lab research institute. Mr. Lam and his team developed an emerging application, Versatile Messaging System, which allows users to send customized video and animated messages. In 2001, he founded an online design community in Hong Kong, www.db-db.com, which now has over 10,000 members.
