Y&R recently won The Gap and China Southern Airlines accounts in China. The agency also works with Colgate-Palmolive, Danone, Hitachi and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Previously, he was CEO at Saatchi & Saatchi in Beijing, where he will continue to be based. Mr. Sampson was a veteran at the Publicis Groupe agency, working at Saatchi offices in China, Warsaw and London. During his ten years at Saatchi & Saatchi, Beijing, Mr. Sampson worked with advertisers such as Hewlett-Packard, Ikea, Snow Beer, Volkswagen Group, Tsingtao Brewery Co., and Toyota Motor Corp.

"After many happy and successful years at Saatchi & Saatchi, I am attracted to the challenge that this new position offers. Matt [Godfrey, Y&R's Asia president] and the team have a clear vision and Y&R is a brand which has been building strong momentum in the last couple of years, both in the region and in China," Mr. Sampson said of his decision to join Y&R, where he succeeds Tom Kao.

Mr. Kao, who was chairman, Greater China, resigned from Y&R in March 2010, after two-and-a-half years with the agency. In late October 2010, Y&R promoted Carter Chow to managing director, Shanghai and Darryl Juinio to general manager, Shanghai, succeeding Managing Director Henry Chan, who returned to Hong Kong for family reasons. Y&R also promoted Shanghai-based Stephen Drummond to chief strategy officer, China from national planning director.
