Miley Cyrus Nudges Walmart Onto Viral Video Chart
What People Watched the Week of Aug. 3
NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Change is in the air. With more action than we've seen in several weeks, four new campaigns made their debuts on the Viral Video Chart. Most notable is that Walmart snagged the No. 5 spot, with a campaign promoting its Miley Cyrus-Max Azria fashion line. It's the first time the retailer has made the chart, and while the spot isn't that interesting, the teenage songstress has enough of a fan base to help her score almost 500,000 views.
Microsoft snagged two slots, with its new Megawoosh campaign for Office, in which a daredevil catapults off what has to be the world's freakiest water slide, and the Project Natal demo, which has been a consistent presence on the chart since its debut at E3 in June.
Also new: an oddball arm-toning product called the Shake Weight (we'd describe what it does but it's probably worth watching at least part of the video) and a campaign for U.K. retailer Bensons for Beds. Nike Skateboarding's campaign is not new, but it is notable, gaining an impressive 600% thanks to extra content and celeb cameos.
