Fredrik Carlström is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Creative Director of Great Works America, a full-service digital marketing and communications agency that represents a diverse range of clients including Absolut Spirits Company, H&M and Nokia. In his dual roles, Carlström, a veteran marketing executive and acclaimed film producer, utilizes his deep and broad experience in both marketing and entertainment to spearhead Great Works America"s mission to create innovative and cutting-edge campaigns that engage consumers and encourage them to interact with leading brands.
Carlström joined Great Works America in February 2007 when the company opened in New York and signed an exclusive partnership with Carlström"s Third Factory, a film production company — the first deal of its kind between an advertising agency and a film production company. This partnership marked the transformation of Great Works America into a marketing agency that bridges the worlds of advertising, art, media and entertainment.
Since joining Great Works America, Carlström has led the company through a tremendous period of growth and innovation. Great Works, which was founded in Stockholm, Sweden as a digital ad agency in 2002 has since added offices in Barcelona, Spain and Tokyo, Japan, and broadened its services to include marketing strategy, branding concepts and execution, motion graphics, advertising, brand content and online campaigns. Recently, Great Works launched "In an Absolut World" for Absolut Vodka, an innovative campaign that asked various creatives to visualize their idea of an "Absolut world." Carlström started his career at Villmer Advertising, an agency in his native Sweden specializing in retail. At twenty-one (and still in school) he founded Graceland Sthlm, an advertising agency in Stockholm. The agency made a name for itself by skillfully positioning and launching unconventional campaigns for clients including; The Cancer Foundation, Liljevalchs Museum of Contemporary Art, Svenska Dagbladet (Sweden"s largest daily newspaper), TV3, and ZTV. As a result, Graceland Sthlm rapidly grew to be both profitable and creatively awarded. For Scandinavian Airline Systems (SAS), Fredrik lead the advertising portion of a multi disciplinary marketing team asked to reposition the brand with new design, advertising, and branded retail stores.
In 2000, Carlström relocated to New York, to branch out into film. He worked with script development for Academy Award-winning producer Edward Saxon ("Silence of the Lambs", "Philadelphia", "Adaptation") and Peter Saraf"s ("Truth About Charlie", "Little Miss Sunshine") company Magnet Entertainment.
In 2003, combining his skills in marketing and film production, Carlström became a Producing Partner in a series of films compiled and released under the title name "Destricted". The films are directed by a group of today"s leading contemporary image-makers, including Marina Abramovic, Matthew Barney, Marco Brambilla, Larry Clark, Gaspar Noé, Richard Prince and Sam Taylor-Wood. "Destricted" premiered as part of the official selection of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and screened at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
Third Factory"s current production slate includes the upcoming feature documentary project from Yael Luttwak, director of critically acclaimed, Tribeca darling "A Slim Peace". The yet untitled project has received initial funding from Chicken & Egg Pictures with Executive Producers Julia Parker Benello, Judith Helfand ("Blue Vinyl") and Wendy Ettinger ("The War Room").
Third Factory is also in pre-production with "Purple Majesty" written by Victor Quinaz, who is also attached to direct. The film is a detective story/film noir, set in Washington D.C. in 1985.
