Publicis Grows Modem Unit With I-shop Buy in France

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Publicis Groupe's digital-buying binge isn't over as the holding company snaps up another agency to grow its global network. The French holding company, which late last year swallowed up Digitas in a $1.3 billion deal, has now purchased Paris-based independent communications agency Wcube. Terms were not disclosed.

Wal-Mart Scraps Happy-Face Logo From TV Ads

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Bye-bye, Mr. Smiley Guy. In its first big push from its new shop, Martin Agency, the Bentonville behemoth is scrapping its happy-face logo from its TV spots and trading in its "Always Low Prices" motto for a new one. The new tagline, "Save Money. Live Better," will be rolled out onto everything from receipts to shopping bags.

National Public Radio and WGBH Boston agreed to acquire National Public Broadcasting, a national sales organization dedicated to selling and underwriting sponsorships for public broadcasting programs. Now sponsorships for all programs on NPR, PBS.org and all local PBS affiliates will be handled under one roof.

Philly Investor Group Catches Flak for Plan to Drape Ads on Inquirer Building

Plans to drape Inquirer building in ads draw criticism The Philadelphia Inquirer reports on its own plan to temporarily drape the Inquirer-Daily News Building with a massive advertisement for the Jerry Seinfeld-backed film "Bee Movie." Community groups have denounced the effort, calling it "garish" and "shocking." The advertising needs approval before it can go up, and representatives from Philadelphia Media Holdings, which publishes The Inquirer and the Daily News, have sought that permission. Philadelphia Media Holdings CEO Brian Tierney said that if there was serious opposition to the proposal, the investment group would revise or even scrap the campaign entirely.
