Steve Jobs should know -- after an expensive adventure creating the first generation of Apple TV almost twenty years ago, he spent years negotiating with MPEG-LA, a cable TV spin-off, for the IP required to make iTunes possible.

It is doubtful that any video programmer would agree to a deal where they basically agree to a single-source provider. (Liberty CEO John Malone calls this "The GI Mistake", after the time it named General Instruments as its exclusive STB supplier.)
Interesting analysis. Google's increasing reach and role as a gatekeeper is frightening. In short time they will own the hardware, OS, video hosting, and search engine that sits between content creators and the consumer. I hope Comcast does not cooperate. We need more competition and choice not less.
