Big thought is :
- Apple is the new Microsoft
- Microsoft is the new cool !

Who is locking its users into a closed environment ?
Who is betraying its core users by accelerated obsolescence of their products ?

Who has finally suceeded in having a cool game console ?
Who is finally friendly and listening to its users ?

From a financial and markets perspective, this article is seriously lacking. Apple makes things people want. Period. Plans for Apple TV next summer...or at least by the 2013 holidays and iPhone updates are going nicely. The company is sitting on over $100BB and will be looking at $200BB in 2013. All maps have problems--not to get ones undies in a wad with Australian police concerns, reported in a typical media way by the WP to get readership. As to the cash situation http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-cash-balance-2013-2012-6.
If you are going to talk stock, get the financial realities/analysis right. And if you have consumer/attitudinal data to back up your brand bashing, bring it. Is a terrific time to buy more Apple stock--I just did. Check the Microsoft performance for the last couple of years. :-( I will hold mine, but will take a long time to see much.

Great companies can still be great after these kinds of crises of faith. Take Starbucks as an example. After overexpansion and a willy-nilly push to be all things to all people, results and morale suffered. But then Howard Shultz penned his famous memo. In essence, it was a Starbucks mea culpa, acknowledging that the brand had lost its way amidst hubris, and taken its focus off of the things that really made it great. Acceptance led to changes that restored its former luster, and today it is back at its peak.

Steve Jobs may or may not have let Apple Maps out the door, but he never would have apologized for it (and it certainly wasn't Apple's first foible with a data-driven product rather than a design-driven one). If Tim Cook and team can use this experience to be honest with themselves about Apple's great strengths and real weaknesses, then we will see the brand get back on the proper path.
