I agree that there may be other business models for Twitter beyond advertising, but I sure wouldn't like to see it crapped up with different colors and fonts. That's a lot of what did the old MySpace in.

Twitter's greatest value to a lot of us is as a news feed. If I want interactive content, I go to other platforms.

I like the idea that ads on Twitter have to resonate for be removed, and hope that they'll keep that dynamic in place.

I also think the other issue is most folks don't use Twitter Native app. Only way for them to do this effectively is to cut off Hootsuite and others. I only use Twitter.com when I'm updating my profile.

With all due respect, most of your ideas are would just turn Twitter into some kind of really horrible MySpace Frankenstein. Basically change a media as per your "monetizable" ideas, destroy what makes it great more to satisfy marketers than offer a service to its audience.

The reasons why Twitter has grown in popularity the its simplicity and how had let the community build tools with its API. Something they are already limiting which might turn into a big mistake in the long run.

Twitter needs to be extremely careful with new features and updates as not to alienate its users and I'm a pointless change like font colours would do exactly that.

Marketers always want to change a media to accommodate brands needs rather than the need of its audience or customers.

Thanks for the Feedback Paul - I thought the rich content options could be improved in two ways - one, letting more consumers tap into it, and therefore bringing as much of that revenue to TW as possible, and two, having all rich content (video streams, polls, gifs etc) appear in the twitter stream without a viewer needing to click on the tweet. Lower barrier to view equals more engagements and views. Overall, this was just a thought exercise to get people thinking about new ways for TW to make money so they can emulate LinkedIn's stock presence and not Facebooks

Mike,

On your Richer Content point, you should be aware that Twitter already enables image/page preview in feeds via Twitter Cards. In fact, companies like Stipple (www.stipple.com ) allow you to tweet interactive images in feeds along with giving brands real time engagement analytics.
