Hollywood has covered a lot of different industries that come quickly to my mind, most of all the military (such as the glamorizing films like "The Green Berets" and "Top Gun," but also critical films like "Apocalypse Now" and "Born on the 4th of July," and the more recent war films like "The Hurt Locker" and "Zero Dark Thirty," not to even mention the intelligence community that is covered and spoofed in the spy genre). Two other (civilian) industries that also seem to be covered a lot in film are automobiles (American Graffiti, Tucker, Flash of Genius, Cars) and fashion (Pret-a-Porter, Devil Wears Prada). And thug life is covered and serialized in great quantities in American film and TV: see any episode of "Law & Order: /flavor of the week/" or any other cop show, or the great organized crime dramas like "The Sopranos," "Boardwalk Empire," "Weeds" and "Breaking Bad" on TV and "The Godfather" saga, "Scarface," "American Gangster," and "Blow" to name a few.

It says so much about our culture and current spot in history that in the span of just three years, we get big-name, big-budget feature films about Facebook, Apple and Google. Looking back, is there any precedent for this type of Hollywood coverage of a single industry? And who's left to feature? LinkedIn? Pinterest (which should just be a Ken Burns style slideshow)? Or maybe Twitter... but that script would have to be 140 characters long.
