I THINK BOTH SIDES ARE WAY OVER-ANXIOUS TO BE RIGHT, BUT THE TRUTH IS, NEITHER THE NYT NOR ELON IS GOING TO DETERMINE WHO BUYS OR PASSES ON THIS NEW TECH TRANSPORT, NOT BY ANY MEANS.
My god (and it could be your god too), this column has become a place for grammar lessons. Why am I here?

Forget about the guidelines Simon, just stick at making things interesting, which most of the time you do pretty well.

By the way, I was impressed by how you said you love that guy, Gotta remember that one. A nice way to pull a guy down to size while remaining courteous and dignified. I could use that technique sometimes.

Cheers

Christopher, I love you and everything you stand for. The grammatical error you point out was caught and fixed by a colleague, but unfortunately not before it ruined your day. For the record, I don't work out of the Ad Age offices, but my own dark, cold cave; I long ago was forced to burn my AP Stylebook for heat.

The great scandal that I can see here is not that the writer/driver didn't follow instructions, nor is it whether the car/planter hates the cold; the horror here is that the media guy can't read the AP Style guide that clearly says you don't hyphenate a compound modifier when the first word ends in ly.

"...Tesla had directed Broder to strategically-located charging stations along the way that should have made his journey a seamless pleasure; ..."

I similarly direct the author to style guides almost certainly littered throughout his office--untouched. My god man, the humanity.

Good Grief!

Richard, I, too, look forward to reading the Times' "more detailed response." I actually can imagine a couple of guys thinking they'd pull one over on Tesla.

OAM:

Simon, there are a couple of errors in the article. One is just a typo, the use of "fall" instead of "far" in the phrase "...falling fall short of expectations..."

The second is not so simple. For many of us, the use of the noun "loan" as a verb is annoying. But then, many of these folks are likely to be old and/or had Ms. Marks for English. But, "loaning"? That's just not related in any way to a loan or the act of lending. It is a British term for milking yard or lane.

Keep up the good work.

Steve

Looking forward to the Times' "more detailed response". Seems a stretch that Broder wouldn't have guessed the Tesla's electronics would give him away if he tried to misrepresent what happened.
