Jermaine Dupri Takes Us Into the TAG Records Bunker

But Who's the First Signee?

As part of the TAG Records arrangement we wrote about a few months back, Jermaine Dupri has been working on a full-scale media roll-out to announce the venture to the world at large -- you know, the almost immeasurably small crumb of America's population that doesn't read this blog. Believe it or not, they're out there living among us.

In anticipation of a certainly dramatic spot, Dupri released this video detailing a few days in the making of its soundtrack. Watch above as he assembles a byzantine beat and extols the virtues of Dr. Dre's brand of studio headphones.

This is all well and good, but where's the first artist signee? According to the press release at launch:
TAG Record's first artist will be officially announced in May. The artist will be given a unique opportunity to merge their music with personal brand marketing. In addition to an album release, the TAG Brand will showcase TAG Record's artist and Jermaine Dupri across various TAG brand advertising and marketing initiatives throughout 2008.
We're looking into it, but so far we're stumped as to who this lucky hip-hop artist is.

And if you thought TAG was the only hip-hop deodorant in town, witness the undeniably awkward ad for 50 Cent's body spray, Pure 50 RGX Bodyspray, by Right Guard:

Be sure to dial the number at the end to hear fan messages for Fiddy that include: "Man that rap was terrible. Kill yourself." and "Hi 50. How do I know you?" as well as more bizarre outpourings of love.
