NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- After dialing back last year's Super Bowl presence, when it used only four spots to advertise Doritos, PepsiCo is coming back to the game in a big way in 2011. In addition to the six spots already promised to Pepsi Max and Doritos for the "Crash the Super Bowl" contest, Ad Age has learned that the company has a seventh spot in the mix.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Commercial time during today's Super Bowl on Fox has been sold out since October, but who's promoting which brands during the annual gridiron classic has only gradually become clear as game day approached. Marketers mixed it up, too: Pizza Hut backtracked on plans to run a commercial during the game itself, reverting to its usual pre-game strategy, while social discounting service Groupon found its way into the game after seeming limited to pre- and post-game advertising.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Less than a month ago, Groupon was shut out of the Super Bowl and was planning on only pre-game and post-game commercials. Now it has secured a single spot in Fox's broadcast of Super Bowl XLV this weekend -- an unexpected turn of events because the network sold out its ad inventory around the end of October.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Commercial time in the Super Bowl has been creeping up over the last decade, culminating in almost 48 minutes' worth of ads and network promotions during last year's game, according to a study of Super Bowl advertising from 2001 through 2010 by Kantar Media.

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- According to a new survey, total consumer Super Bowl spending is expected to reach $10.1 billion, the highest in the survey's eight-year history. More people also plan to celebrate the event by throwing a party, attending a party or watching at a bar or restaurant.

LOS ANGELES (AdAge.com) -- Skechers wasn't quite ready for its first trip to the Super Bowl last year, but the company decided to take a chance when a hole in the ad lineup appeared just two weeks before the game. "We didn't have a spot ready, so we didn't throw a creative masterpiece on the game," CMO Leonard Armato recalled. This year, however, it's got Kim Kardashian at the ready.
