[irving, texas] Kimberly-Clark Corp. is reviewing its global feminine hygiene business, including the $25 million U.S. account now handled by Ogilvy & Mather. Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago, Tampax's shop before Procter & Gamble Co. bought it, handles K-C's Kleenex facial tissue.

3Com sends $80 mil

in business to FCB

[santa clara, calif.] 3Com Corp. named Foote, Cone & Belding as global agency on its $80 million account, as expected (AA, Oct. 6), with the mandate to create a unified image for the modem and networking products marketer. The account was split between multiple shops.

Adidas kicking off

global ads with Bryant

[portland, ore.] Adidas launches a global ad push this week starring young NBA phenom Kobe Bryant in support of the player's first signature shoe, the KB-8. Creative is handled by Leagas Delaney, London. The TV spot breaks in the U.S. Oct. 31; the shoe hits Nov. 8. With its brand gaining momentum around the world, Adidas is looking at launching an unprecedented global brand campaign next year to supplement various product and sports-specific efforts.

Mazda set to pick shop

for $240 mil account

[irvine, calif.] Mazda Motors of America is expected to announce a winner early this week in its $240 million U.S. agency review, from GSD&M, Austin, Texas, Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, Los Angeles, and W.B. Doner & Co., Southfield, Mich. Foote, Cone & Belding, Santa Ana, Calif., has to transfer the account by Nov. 30, when parent True North Communications should complete its acquisition of Bozell Jacobs Kenyon & Eckardt, a Chrysler Corp. agency.

Universal likely to send

local biz to Focus Media

[universal city, calif.] Executives familiar with Universal Pictures' $160 million media review and consolidation said it is likely Focus Media, Los Angeles, will pick up the local-spending portion of the account, now primarily handled by DDB Needham Worldwide, Los Angeles. Currently, Focus only handles the home video portion. Focus also handles media buying for rival start-up studio DreamWorks SKG, but Universal distributes DreamWorks' films. DDB Needham is the favorite to keep national buying for movies.

Taco Bell talks to FCB

for field service acc't

[irvine, calif.] Taco Bell is in contract negotiations with Foote, Cone & Belding, Chicago and San Francisco, on its $100 million field service business, according to people familiar with the talks. The work is currently split among Bozell Worldwide, Costa Mesa, Calif., and other shops. TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif., handles creative on Taco Bell's national account. Taco Bell denied a decision had been made.

Leap claims Daewoo

win; Edelman denies it

[compton, calif.] Edelman Public Relations Worldwide late on Oct. 24 denied its client, Daewoo Motor America, tapped Leap Partnership, Chicago, to create a national strategy from among its four regional shops. Leap announced the news that morning, saying it had Daewoo's OK to publicize the win. A regional Daewoo executive insists the official word won't come until Woo Choong Kim, chairman of South Korea's Daewoo Group, sees the advertising in a month or so. Daewoo launches its cars in the U.S. next year.

Pepsi asks Goodby

for Slice ads

[somers, n.y.] In what may be signs of a global push for orange beverages, Pepsi-Cola Co. has asked Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, to develop advertising for its Mandarin Orange Slice soft drink, which hasn't been supported on air since 1993. The work is part of the $25 million to $30 million account the agency won earlier this month, primarily for Pepsi's 7UP and Mirinda orange soda brands outside the U.S.

Ameritech starts search

for new media agency

[chicago] Ameritech Corp., scrambling after Leo Burnett USA abruptly dropped the telco's $100 million media account on Oct. 17, has hired consultant Morgan Anderson & Co., New York, to find another media shop. A final decision is expected next week. Ameritech's primary creative shop, Ammirati Puris Lintas, New York, may hook up with Media Inc., New York, for the pitch, said one executive familiar with the review. Cliff Freeman & Partners, New York, another Ameritech creative shop, also is said to be looking for a media partner for the pitch. BBDO Worldwide, New York, is also in the review.

America West picks four finalists

in $24 million review

[phoenix] America West Airlines has named the Richards Group, Dallas; Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; and Hal Riney & Partners and J. Walter Thompson USA, both San Francisco, as finalists in its $24 million review, according to consultancy Achenbaum Bagda Associates. The previous agency is Team One, El Segundo, Calif.


Vendome Group, Paris, to Ammirati Puris Lintas, Hamburg, from Team BBDO, for its $40 million global Mont Blanc pen account. . . . Clear Channel Communications, San Antonio, and Universal Outdoor, Chicago, agreed on a record-setting $1.7 billion stock-swap merger; along with Clear Channel's spring purchase of Eller Media, the combined group would be one of the largest out-of-home media groups worldwide. . . . Austin Nichols & Co. heard pitches for its estimated $10 million Wild Turkey whiskey business last week and is expected to announce a winner by Oct. 29. . . . H.J. Heinz Co., Pittsburgh, to Fallon McElligott, Minneapolis, for its its $8 million to $10 million Weight Watchers frozen food account. Lowe & Partners/SMS had handled on a project basis previously. . . . Aramis, a division of the Estee Lauder Cos., will introduce Hilfiger Athletics next April, its third fragrance with designer Tommy Hilfiger, with an estimated $16.5 million in advertising from Toth Design, Concord, Mass. . . . Gerber Products Co. is introducing its first line of organic baby foods under the Tender Harvest brand name and is believed to be planning a TV advertising
