Bridgestone/Firestone looking for agency

[nashville, tenn.] Bridgestone/Firestone is talking with six agencies in New York and Chicago about a consolidation of its $15 million corporate and retail business. TBWA Chiat/Day, New York, is agency for Bridgestone's corporate account and declined to comment, as did Bridgestone Director of Advertising Paul Napoli. TBWA currently is working on a campaign to start this fall for Bridgestone.

True North still in talks with BJK&E

[chicago] True North Communications was continuing its talks last week about an acquisition deal with Bozell, Jacobs, Kenyon & Eckhardt, said an executive familiar with the discussions, who added that "no deal is imminent." Rumblings last week also persisted that a third agency such as Bates Worldwide might be part of the deal and separately that Omnicom Group is talking to Bozell as well. Neither Bates nor Omnicom executives could be reached for comment.

Infiniti debuts new Pytka campaign

[carson, calif.] Nissan Motor Corp. USA's Infiniti today launches a TV campaign with the tagline "Own one and you'll understand." Infiniti will promote its reputation for customer satisfaction, driving home the long-term pleasure owners get from the luxury car. TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif., handles the $100 million account. It's the first Chiat work produced by Joe Pytka in about 20 years.

Glaxo narrows review to Grey, Media Edge, Zenith

[research triangle park, n.c.] Glaxo Wellcome has selected Grey Advertising, Media Edge and Zenith Media, all New York, as finalists in its $90 million direct-to-consumer media account.

JWT drops $25 mil Midas account

[chicago] J. Walter Thompson USA resigned the $25 million Midas International Corp. account for the U.S., effective Aug. 15. The agency said Ford Motor Co.'s plans to open satellite service centers "will put Ford and Midas on a collision course." JWT Detroit handles Ford Division.

Prodigy reviews $10 mil direct account

[white plains, n.y.] Prodigy is conducting an $8 million to $10 million review for a national agency with direct marketing expertise to help the online service pursue co-branding and channel marketing opportunities. Out as ad agency is Weiss, Whitten, Stagliano, New York, though Prodigy VP-Marketing Bill Pearson said the review stems from Prodigy's change in marketing strategy.

McDonald's uses sign to clear up '55' confusion

[oak brook, ill.] To combat apparent customer confusion over "Campaign 55" pricing, McDonald's Corp. has added point-of-purchase signs nationwide clarifying the discount. Signs from Frankel & Co., Chicago, compare the price of a Big Mac "My Size Meal" with a la carte prices and Extra Value Meal prices. Separately, a franchisee said he expects a return of the Teenie Beanie Babies promotion in the coming months.

'Fortune' looking for consumer/trade agency

[new york] Fortune has split with Mullen, Wenham, Mass., for its consumer and trade account, billings of which were undisclosed. A Fortune spokesman said the review includes Fallon McElligott and Martin/Williams, both Minneapolis; and TBWA Chiat/Day and Wells Rich Greene BDDP, New York.

Boston Market readies ads for new kids meals

[golden, colo.] Boston Market on June 2 breaks a national TV campaign to support new kids meals, with ads from Goldberg Moser O'Neill, San Francisco. Bearing the tagline "Introducing homestyle done kids style," the spots launch kids mascot Digs, a Boston terrier. Running on prime-time programs targeting women, the spots bill Boston Market's kids fare as more wholesome than other chain's meals.

Carat recruits TN's Burke for research director post
