Ad Age has presented the 2019 winners of their annual A-List and Creativity Awards. The A-List, determined by the Ad Age editorial team, honors the top agencies and companies whose daring creativity, smart strategy and business acumen in 2018 made brands sing—despite the increasingly challenging landscape of shrinking budgets, shifting marketing models and distracted consumers.
The group represents a curious, but important mix of disciplines—independent shops, big network players, traditional agencies, digital experts, experience mavens, PR firms, storytellers and story makers. In an environment where now anything goes, the best brand communicators must be able to go anywhere.
The digital marketing shop embraced the idea of aiding clients’ in-house efforts, bucking an industry trend.
The legacy agency garnered much of its growth from existing clients including Verizon and Microsoft.
The firm’s forward-thinking view helped land all three of its 2018 pitches: Ally Bank, Booking.com and Petco.
Impressive numbers plus work such as Burger King’s “Whopper Detour” campaign added up to a great year.
6. Work & Co.
A focus on creating digital products paid off for the DUMBO-based agency. In 2018 the shop scooped up Mercedes, Ikea and Equinox.
Creativity was booming, and the shop struck gold with a Gatorade spot celebrating Serena Williams’ motherhood.
Its consistent top-notch storytelling solved a wicked problem with the #CrockPotIsInnocent social campaign.
3. Giant Spoon
The agency retained all of its clients in 2018 while adding brands like Netflix, WeWork and Glossier.

The shop is just killing it; in a span of 18 months it won BMW, Pepsi, Liberty Mutual and more.
1. Wieden & Kennedy
The top spot, for the second year running, goes to the shop behind the game-changing Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick.
