S.F. Shop to Handle Creative and Media Duties for Restaurant Chain

SAN FRANCISCO ( -- Restaurant chain California Pizza Kitchen has named independent San Francisco shop Grant, Scott & Hurley agency of record for its creative and media planning and buying account.

The premium pizza chain previously had worked with a number of creative resources in the Los Angeles area. BrandForbes, Dallas, previously handled media.

Billings of up to $2 million
Grant, Scott will be responsible for in-store advertising as well as an out-of-home campaign expected to begin in the second quarter. Billings were estimated in the range of $1 million to $2 million.

California Pizza Kitchen, as of the end of last month, had 149 restaurants, with 118 company-owned and 31 franchised or licensed. Under an agreement with Kraft Pizza Co., California Pizza Kitchen markets a frozen pizza line.

The chain reported total revenue for fiscal 2002 as $306.3 million, up 23% from the previous fiscal year. Sales at restaurants open for more than one year, or comparable store sales, were up 4.3%.
