NEW YORK ( -- Jewelry retailer Helzberg Diamonds put its advertising account in review.

John Goodman, senior vice president of marketing, said that the company is looking for an agency strong in retail brand management, account management and creative execution in radio, TV and interactive mediums.

Helzberg Diamonds' current agency is Panoramic Communications' Earle Palmer Browne, New York. Mr. Goodman said the agency is participating in the review process, but management of the agency's parent company is seeking an exit strategy for the company, which may include selling off assets.

Requests for proposals have been sent out, and the next step is to prune down the "fewer than 10" agencies currently involved, Mr. Goodman said. He expects the process to be completed by fall 2002. SH Jacobs & Associates, Philadelphia, is the review consultant.

Spending for 2002 is expected to be $10 million.

A subsidiary of holding company Berkshire Hathaway, Helzberg Diamonds operates more than 250 retail stores and is based in Kansas City, Mo.
