Beats Incumbent Saatchi After Review

NEW YORK ( -- After a review, E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. has tapped Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson Worldwide, New York, to handle consumer advertising globally for its Lycra brand.

The account was won after a review that included incumbent Publicis Groupes' Saatchi & Saatchi and WPP Group's Y&R Advertising, both New York.

Billings were not disclosed. According to Taylor Nelson Sofres' CMR, DuPont spent approximately $3 million in the U.S. to promote Lycra in apparel. Lycra, a man-made fiber developed more than 40 years ago, is used in a wide variety of products, including bedding, hosiery and shoes.

In addition to its responsibilities on Lycra, McCann-Erickson also creates corporate advertising for DuPont. The current campaign is "The Miracle of Science," which runs globally.
