Shootout Is for Recruitment Ad Campaign

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The New York City Police Department, planning a recruitment ad campaign estimated at $9 million, is reviewing nine agencies.

Those pitching the account include Omnicom Group's TBWA/Chiat/Day and DDB Worldwide; recruitment ad specialist Bernard Hodes Group; and WPP Group's J. Walter Thompson and Y&R Advertising, all New York.

A New York City spokesman would not identify the agencies or disclose a spending figure.

The nine finalists began oral presentations July 26. The NYPD ran a $10 million campaign in 1999 for a diversity recruitment drive, giving the account to Omnicom's Arnell Group, which offered to do the work pro bono.
