YORK, Pa. ( -- Sun Microsystems has put its U.S. creative advertising account into review, according to a spokeswoman.

Only agencies with offices in the San Francisco Bay Area will be invited to participate, and Select Resources International, of Santa Monica, Calif., is distributing the requests for proposals.

The review is meant to consolidate the company's advertising work, she said.

Omnicom Group's Arnell Group of New York is the incumbent on the creative account but it is not known if the agency will participate in the review, the spokeswoman said. The media account, handled by Publicis Groupe's Starcom, is not affected.

Spending not disclosed
Spending was not disclosed. Sun spent $5.5 million for the first seven months of the year, and $11.7 million in 2003, according to TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.

That's a sharp decline from the company's highs during the industry tech boom, when spending reached $49.7 million in 2000.
