BtoB Publisher Bob Felsenthal announced several editorial promotions at the magazine.

John Obrecht has been named editor of BtoB and its sibling publication, Media Business. He joined BtoB predecessor Business Marketing as managing editor in 1998. He formerly worked as a business editor at daily newspapers in Chicago and San Antonio and as a state capitol reporter in Little Rock, Ark.

Obrecht succeeds Ellis Booker, who is stepping down after 10 years as editor of BtoB to pursue other ventures.

“Ellis has done a great job of helping expand the role of BtoB from a traditional print publication to one now very involved in all channels of communication to our audience, including many newsletters, webinars, events, virtual trade shows and, of course, our website,” Felsenthal said. “With Ellis leading our content team, we have continued to excel at covering the continually evolving b-to-b world. I am sure Ellis will do well in his future endeavors.”

About his decision to leave Crain Communications Inc. after a decade as BtoBeditor, Booker said, “I saw a chance to take all that I’ve learned about business marketing, technology and the media business directly to the marketplace. And it’s comforting to know that I leave BtoB in good hands,” Felsenthal said.

Kate Maddox has been appointed to the new post of executive editor of BtoB. Her responsibilities will include overseeing editorial content for BtoB’s in-person and digital events, as well as continuing to report on the b-to-b industry. Maddox joined BtoB as senior reporter in 2001 after serving as content chairman at ad:tech. Prior to that, she held editorial positions at Crain Communications’ Advertising Age and Electronic Media.

Sean Callahan has been named executive editor of Media Business, a new position, and will take a greater role in the editing of content for the monthly publication, which is distributed to a select audience of business media professionals. He joined Business Marketing in 1998 after working as a reporter for daily newspapers in Chicago and Steamboat Springs, Colo., and most recently served as media editor of BtoB. He previously worked as a creative director at advertising agencies in Chicago and was founder and editor of Masters Athlete magazine.

Martin Musker has been named BtoB’s design director-print and digital, also a new position. In addition to his longstanding role as design director of BtoB and Media Business, he is now responsible for the editorial look and feel of the publications’ companion websites. Musker joined Business Marketing in 1998 as art director and was later promoted to design director at BtoB.

Tequia Burt has been promoted to news editor, from senior editor. She joined BtoB in 2006 as associate editor. In addition to her current duties overseeing coverage of direct and database, events and vertical marketing, she will edit the Daily News Alert and Inside Technology Marketing online newsletters.

Christopher Hosford has been promoted to East Coast bureau chief, from senior reporter. Hosford, who joined BtoB in 2008, will continue to report on direct, database and search marketing, while playing a bigger role in live and digital events.

“With these latest changes, BtoB has completed a reorganization of its editorial operations that will better position the brand for growth going forward,” Obrecht said.
