New York—Three former Fortune editors Tuesday announced plans to form a new tech media company, to be called Techonomy. The startup’s founders are David Kirkpatrick, Peter Petre and Brent Schlender.

Techonomy, which will officially be launched later this year, will be a “hybrid of original reporting, opinion, aggregated content and contributed long-form journalism,” according to a press release.

The company said it will hold its first conference Aug. 4–6 in Truckee, Calif. The conference has already attracted “sponsors and partners” that include Centerview Partners, Chevron, Hewlett-Packard Co., Intel Inc., LPL Financial, Hill & Knowlton, McKinsey & Co., Scientific American and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Techonomy said CNBC, which will be the event’s exclusive broadcast partner, plans to broadcast live from the event.

Speakers at the event will include Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman and Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
