McLean, Va.—Gannett Co.'s USA Today announced Friday a major organizational restructuring that hastens the newspaper's continuing moves into digital and mobile content.

The changes will result in cutting about 130 jobs of 1,500 at the paper, about a 9% reduction, according to the Associated Press.

The restructuring includes the creation of five new departments: business development, digital development, product development and design, vertical development and USA Today Sports.

“This significant restructuring reflects USA Today's evolution from a newspaper company to a multiplatform media company,” David L. Hunke, president-publisher of USA Today, said in a statement.
