Anton, who had double-bypass heart surgery late last week and is not attending the meeting, has been CEO of Hanley Wood since 2005, when he succeeded co-founder Mike Wood. He has continued Hanley Wood’s dual strategy of growing both organically and through acquisition.
ABM also approved the following executive officers for the coming year:
—Gary Fitzgerald, president of Meister Media Worldwide, was named vice chairman.
—Bob Carrigan, president of IDG Communications, who was named secretary.
—Peggy Walker, president-COO of Vance Publishing, was named treasurer. Walker is the first woman to be named to ABM’s executive committee. Last December, Walker oversaw the restructuring of Vance to boost its online operations.
Gordon Hughes II, president-CEO of ABM, said of the new officers: “These guys fully understand transition.” He added that digital media will be top of mind at the Spring Meeting.
“The 800-pound gorilla in the room is when digital pricing surpasses traditional [ad] pages,” he said. “That’s the question before this group, and it’s a very real one.”
ABM also voted in the following board members for 2007-2008: Charles McCurdy, CEO of Apprise Media and chairman-CEO of Canon Communications; Harry Sachinis, president of the Business Information Group at McGraw-Hill Cos.; Tad Smith, CEO of Reed Business Information; Anthea Stratigos, president-CEO of market research company Outsell Inc.; and Neal Vitale, president-CEO of 1105 Media.
