Access Intelligence shuttering ‘Cable World’

New York—Access Intelligence said it plans to shutter Cable World. The mid-December issue will the magazine's last.

Cable World was founded in 1989 and has had a handful of owners since that time, including Primedia Inc. Phillips Business Information, now called Access Intelligence, acquired Cable World from Primedia in 2003.

Diane Schwartz, VP-group publisher of the Media Communications Group at Access Intelligence, attributed the decision to fold the magazine to a changed marketplace. "The editorial has been outstanding, but the market has changed," she said. "We find our readers are looking for a lot of new ways to get information and have the opportunity to network." To that end, she said Access Intelligence plans to more than double its cable TV industry-related programs and events next year, including webinars, and invest more in video. Those programs will fall under the CableFAX mantle. CableFAX Magazine, which had been publishing two times a year, will move to a six-times-a-year schedule.
