Ad revenue for business publications up slightly in first half of the year

New York—Advertising revenue for business publications grew 1.01% through June compared with the same period in 2005, according to figures released by American Business Media’s Business Information Network (BIN). The building, engineering, construction category led with an 8.03% increase in ad revenue followed by the automotive and resources, environment, utilities categories, each posting a 7.88% increase. Ad revenue decliners included agriculture, down 6.08%, and transportation and logistics, down 6.50%. Ad pages for June rose 0.68%. Revenue in June was up 0.03%. Strong ad categories in June included architecture, design, lighting and resources, environment, utilities, which posted increases of 16.01%, and 9.23%, respectively. “As print advertising plateaus, it is important to view the whole business-to-business advertising picture, with in-person events and online resources leading the way,” said Gordon Hughes, ABM president-CEO, in a statement. “Our sources indicate that face-to-face events show steady growth at 6%, and our digital offerings continue to grow at a robust 20%-plus on average.”
