Akamai buys Intervu

Cambridge, Mass.--In a move that underscores the growing importance of broadband technology on the Internet, Akamai Technologies, a provider of services for the high-speed delivery of Internet content, announced Monday it has agreed to acquire San Diego, Calif.-based streaming media company Intervu in a stock deal valued at $2.8 billion. With the acquisition, Akamai will have more than 1,000 customers using streaming media over its servers, including Apple, CNN, IBM Corp. and Microsoft Corp.
