New York—Capping off a year of festivities, American Business Media on Thursday night celebrated its centennial with a gala event at the American Museum of Natural History. The birthday bash drew about 450 people.

The evening kicked off with a short video presentation featuring Gordon Hughes II, president-CEO of ABM, and other top industry executives addressing the speed of change in media and the tremendous challenges faced by business publishers.

Hughes and Michael Marchesano, exec VP-chief transformation officer of VNU and 2006-2007 chairman of ABM, followed the video with some brief comments. “Hey, Mike, we’re celebrating our 100th anniversary tonight, but I don’t think we look a day over 95,” Hughes said.

The rest of the evening was dedicated to dining, dancing and networking. A book celebrating ABM’s centennial, “A Century Moving Business Forward,” was handed out at the end of the evening.
