Miami--Most companies that have developed enterprise portals are not moving beyond the basic levels of implementation, according to a new survey and white paper by consulting and systems integration firm Answerthink Inc.
The survey found that more than half of companies responding had implemented enterprise portals, and 31% said they plan to do so within the next six to 12 months. But of those companies that had implemented portals, none said their portal offers full business integration.
Thirty-eight percent of companies classified their current environments as "entry-level," and 31% said their sites offer content integration only.
In terms of site functionality, 24% of sites offer workflow or business process management tools, and 23% offer single search capability. Only 8% of sites offer collaboration capabilities.
The survey also found that less than 30% of companies have implemented metrics for tracking business value of their enterprise portals.
The survey was based on responses from more than two dozen executives. The average company size was 60,000 employees, and more than half of the companies are global enterprises.
