ANX looks to improve image

The fledgling Automotive Network eXchange, Detroit, has plans to beef up its public relations effort. Science Applications International Corp., San Diego, the engineering firm most responsible for designing and maintaining the network, has named Franco Public Relations Group, Detroit, to head PR and marketing for ANX. The move is of interest because ANX has lost much of its visibility in the wake of plans by General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler to build a trading exchange. It also comes as ANX attempts to lure other industries to use its services under the new moniker Advanced Network eXchange. One of the first industrywide Internet technology initiatives, launched three years ago, ANX provides secure Internet connections for companies looking to communicate with each other over the Internet.
