AOL to retire Netscape browser

New York—Time Warner Inc.’s AOL unit announced that it will retire its popular Netscape Navigator browser on Feb. 1 and support a transition to the open-source Mozilla Firefox browser. AOL will discontinue new releases and security updates to Netscape, although the browser will still be available for general use. AOL is encouraging its users to download the free Firefox browser, which is currently being used by about 10% of Internet users.
