B-to-b media M&A activity heats up

New York--The media mergers and acquisition market is running at “twice the pace” of last year, according to data compiled by media investment bank DeSilva & Phillips.

In the first quarter of this year, 24 deals took place, compared with eight in the year-earlier quarter. The aggregate deal value totaled $413 million in first quarter 2004, about twice as much as the $209 million in the same period last year.

The activity so far this year included about 11 deals that were valued at $10 million or higher, compared with three in the same period a year ago.
